Buffalo Sabres Game Reviews October 29,2023: Sabres shutout Avalanche in dominating performance

This was a dominant performance against the Avalanche and a shutout on top of that. The Sabres haven't gotten off to the best start this year, but they are better than they were last year. The defense was better in front of UPL in this game. I still believe in this team despite the 4-5-0 start this year.

                       Positives

Sabres offense dominated in this game

Tyson Jost, Casey Mittelstadt, J.J Peterka and Ramsus Dahlin each got a goal in this game. Jeff Skinner had 2 assists while Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch, Owen Power and Henri Jokiharju each had 1 assist in this game. We had 28 shots on goal against Alexandar Georgiev in this game. We made Alexandar Georgiev work all day today. The offense got a lot of good scoring chances where this could had been 8-0.

Defense was good in front of UPL

The Avalanche didn't have a good scoring chance in this game. Our defense was good in this game. We blocked 21 shots from the Avalanche in this game making it harder for them to score. Ramsus Dahlin and Mattis Samuelsson each led the team in block shots with 3. The Penalty Kill made the Avalanche go 0 for 5 on the Power Play.

                       Negatives

                       The Power Play still struggled

If there is one negative in this game is that we went 0 for 3 on the Power Play. We are just 12 percent on the Power Play which is 26th in the NHL. We need to get the Power Play going this year. This team has the players to get the Power Play going and I hope we do as the year goes on.

                      Perspective

The Sabres have started out slow this year, but this game looks like they turned the corner. The offense took it to the Avalanche in this game as they had them on their heels. The defense made life difficult for the Avalanche offense in this game. Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch are starting to get on the score sheet now which is encouraging.

Note: I will only do select Sabres game as there are 82 games in a NHL season. The next Sabres game review will be on Saturday November 4th as that is the 1st rivalry showdown against the Maple Leafs in Toronto. I did a game review today against the Avalanche because this was a Sunday matinee game.
